Our journey so far
Our Story
Our story begins in West Monroe, LA—born and raised. Growing up, we were captivated by the tales of the “Duckmen” and the adventures of Phil Robertson. Watching their videos as kids, we were hooked—we couldn’t get enough.
Phantom Decoys started with two best friends, Gavin Beard and Bobby Kelly, who grew up chasing birds whenever we could. Long before there was a brand, there were early mornings, muddy boots, frozen hands, and a shared passion that’s never faded.
Waterfowl hunting shaped who we are. It taught us patience, respect for the process, and pride in doing things the right way. Over the years, we hunted behind every decoy imaginable, always thinking we could make something better—something we’d be proud to set in our own spread.
As we geared up for the 2023 season, Gavin turned to me and said, “Bobby, why don’t we just make our own decoys?” We were tired of settling for the quality of what was out there, and we just knew we could do better.
Over the next few years, we poured ourselves into designing and developing our own decoys. Countless prototypes, field tests, and early mornings went into creating products that we were proud of—and that actually worked. When birds started committing to our spreads, we knew we were onto something.
Then came the question: what do we call them? That came almost effortlessly… Gavin said it: “Phantom.” And just like that, it clicked. The name was perfect. Our decoys blend in so naturally with real birds that, in the field, they almost disappear—like a phantom.
We’re our own toughest critics. If a decoy doesn’t look real in changing light, survive a hard season, or earn a bird’s trust, it doesn’t make the cut.
These decoys aren’t made to look good on a shelf—they’re built from experience, tested in the field, and refined until they met our highest standards.
Phantom Decoys is more than a product. It’s a reflection of where we come from, the hunts that shaped us, and proof that when something matters, you build it right.
